Most of my paintings have their origins in something I have seen in reality, no matter how surreal they appear. This bed really existed, the whole frame wedged in a tree, in a field off the main road from Kyrenia to Nicosia in Cyprus. Some faded bedclothes were hanging off it in a lovely dishevelled fashion. It summed up the spirit of the island, at one with nature, slightly off the wall and free from inhibition. The Troodos mountains, Cyprus trees and many small round trees that make a dots and dashes pattern provide a great backdrop for the bed.
