Commissions I have been so lucky lately to have been asked to work on a number of commissions in quick succession. It is always a very special thing to do a commission and I usually have a brief although I interpret it in my own way. To give some examples, a very early commission was from Stuart and Nicky Sim who wanted a 'banana boat' version of the Turkish Gulets painting as a way of celebrating a special day we had in the summer of 2002. Stephanie and Bill Harrison-Croft who commissioned 'The Lighthouse' gave me a brief of four words expressing Stephanies deep feelings about her daughter's imminent departure for University in the UK. Jean and Reg who commissioned 'The Waterfall' gave a brainstormed 33 themes from which I selected certain aspects to weave a little story. Recently I have been researching flower meanings and animal symbolism as a way of investing these images, to my mind, with a kind of magical energy. These paintings are personal but express such universal aspects of the human condition that they transcend the personal and become part of the range of prints which wing their merry way to the four coners of the earth. I feel this is one of the most satisfying aspects of commissioning a painting from me. You will recieve a personal, loving and heartfelt original piece of artwork from me which will spread around the world giving off a little light wherever it goes. I love doing commissions, I feel intense inspiration when painting these pieces, so if it is something you may be interested in please drop me a line and lets see where it takes us... |
